Safe Chemical Solutions Since 1942

Where acids and mechanical cleaning methods fail... RYDLYME succeeds!

  • Safely and efficiently dissolve tough struvite buildup in piping at wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) or anywhere where struvite is an issue!

  • 100% biodegradable WITHOUT neutralization!

  • Non-hazardous! Safe to handle!

  • Safe on metals and materials found at WWTPs and other wastewater facilities!

What is struvite?

Struvite is a naturally occurring crystal of magnesium, ammonium and phosphate. Struvite crystallizes in the orthorhombic system as white to yellowish or brownish-white pyramidal crystals or in platey mica-like forms.

It can be a problem in sewage and waste water treatment, particularly after anaerobic digesters release ammonium and phosphate from waste material, as it forms a scale on lines and clogs system pipes.

In some cases, struvite buildup  has been known to have to consistency of concrete. Struvite was first described from medieval sewer systems in Hamburg Germany in 1845 and named for geographer and geologist Heinrich Christian Gottfried von Struve (1772-1851).

The first-known use of struvite as an agricultural fertilizer was first reported in 1857.

RYDLYME Biodegradable Descaler: The Ideal Solution to Getting RYD of Struvite at Your WWTP!

Tackling struvite in 1,600 feet of pipe at a WWTP

A wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) had a severe buildup of struvite throughout 1,600 feet of piping effectively reducing the 6-inch diameter to 1 inch. Known to have the consistency of concrete, the struvite was no match for RYDLYME

RYDLYME approach

  • 330 gallons
  • Could not circulate due to design of system; pumped throughout pipe and let stand for 8 hours
  • 100% concentration due to time concerns (future cleanings will require lesser cleaning times and amount of solution)

RYDLYME results

  • After 8-hour session and water flush, struvite was dissolved and flow rate returned to normal!

RYDLYME called upon again to dissolve struvite

After dissolving 1,600 feet of struvite-corroded pipe at a WWTP, RYDLYME was called in again to dissolve more struvite. This time the buildup was within 500 feet of pipe (6- and 8-inch in diameter) on the inlet side of the solids centrifuge. The severe buildup reduced the capacity of the pipe to only 20 cubic meters per hour (88gpm).

RYDLYME approach

  • 825 gallons
  • Circulated via 1 1/2-inch centrifugal pump for 8 hours

RYDLYME results

  • The capacity of the pipe increased to an astounding 220 cubic meters per hour (968gpm)!
